I remember my father

You held onto the seat
Until I felt secure
The feeling of freedom
Riding my bike on two wheels
Was incomparable
Although I couldn't see you
I knew you were behind me
Full of pride, smiling ear to ear
And ready to catch me if I fell.

In the early morning hours
On our daily commute
You recounted Bible verses
And spoke to us about life
As we watched the sun rise
I can still hear your voice
Advising, scolding,
Correcting and loving us

Your creativity
In your beautiful poetry
The funny songs you improvised
They never failed to put
A smile on my face
And joy in my heart
Despite hardship
You were able to laugh
That is the greatest lesson I learned from you.
In happiness say Amen. In sadness say Amen.

Your strength
In working everyday
You never gave in
I remember everyday
I had plenty to eat
When I was sick
You cared for me
Your kindness
Your gentleness
Your humility
My Father.
I remember you.
